DOCUMENTING SENIOR YEAR
A Website Devoted to Remembering My Last Year Studying at McGill University
“If you had one day to live, what would you do? Would you climb a mountain? Would kiss the girl of you dreams? Would you tell someone how you really feel? Now, if you had a whole lifetime to live, would you lose that drive? Or would your list just keep getting longer?”
- MTV's The Buried Life
My name is Maggie Rebalski and I'm currently in my last year at McGill university. This is the last time I will ever be a senior in an undergrad program in university... ever. I find that people start to say things like this when they come to the end of any life milestone-- high school, university, when you become an "adult" and leave your teenage years behind. "These will be the best days of your life! Enjoy them while they last!!" In our culture, these events are a big deal, and their endings establishing somewhat unsettling closure. I don't want to leave my "best days" behind me forever! So, in the spirit of these grand statements, I decided to document my year. What we did, what we were thinking, where we went, what we listened to, etc. I'm all for living in the moment, so when this year is over, I won't be sad. I'll be ready to move on. But in the end, it will nice to look back and have this website to help me remember. Like Steve Jobs advised in his 2005 Stanford graduating class commencement speech: "Stay hungry, stay foolish." I hope this website will one day remind me of those things that kept me hungry and foolish.
Peace and blessings,
Maggie
